Privacy Notice

The calculators on this site run in your browser, and the numbers you type into them are never sent to a server.

The calculators stay in your browser

The calculators run entirely in your browser, and the numbers you enter, such as lot size or margin, are never sent to a server. Nothing you type is stored by the desk or attached to your visit. Closing the page clears the working figures.

This matters for a site about gold (XAU/USD) trading, where a reader may test position sizes and margin before opening an account. The sums stay on the device, and the desk never sees them.

Traffic counts and local storage

The site keeps only aggregate traffic counts, such as how many visits a page receives, and does not build a profile of an individual reader. Local storage is used to hold your own preferences on your device, such as a setting you chose, so the page behaves the same on your next visit.

You can clear local storage through your browser at any time, and the site will work without it. Clearing it resets your preferences but does not affect your ability to read any page.

Cookies set by a broker

When you follow an affiliate link to a broker, that broker sets its own cookies under its own policy. The desk does not control those cookies and cannot read them. The broker's privacy notice explains what it collects and why.

Read the broker's policy before opening an account, particularly if you are funding with M-Pesa and want to know how payment data is handled. The desk's role ends at the link.

What Rift Compare stores on its own servers and what stays only on your device

Rift Compare stores almost nothing on its servers. The only data that reaches us is what you type into a contact form or email, plus the aggregate traffic counts described below. Your calculator inputs, saved scenarios, and preferred lot size never leave your browser and are not written to any server-side database. That means a calculator session on your phone in Nairobi cannot be reconstructed by us later, because we never received it in the first place.

What we do store on our servers is limited to operational records: the date and time a contact message arrives, the email address you use to send it, and the content of that message. We do not attach calculator results, broker preferences, or trading history to those records. If you never contact us, our server-side storage contains no personal identifier for you at all, only the anonymous traffic counts that every website receives.

What we deliberately do not store includes your M-Pesa number, your broker account number, your ID or passport details, your trading statements, and any position data. Rift Compare is a comparison and calculation site, not a broker, and we have no mechanism to receive those details. If a page ever asks for them, it is not us. Treat any such request as a red flag and close the tab.

The practical consequence is that deleting your browser data deletes nearly everything Rift Compare knows about you. Clearing site data removes your saved calculator inputs and any local preferences. It does not remove a contact message you already sent, because that lives in our inbox; you would need to email us to have that deleted, as described under your rights below.

The three kinds of cookies this site uses and the job each one does

Rift Compare uses three functional categories of cookies: strictly necessary ones, preference cookies, and affiliate attribution cookies. Strictly necessary cookies keep the site working, for example by remembering that you dismissed a notice or by balancing traffic across servers. Preference cookies remember choices like your preferred display currency or the last calculator tab you used. Affiliate attribution cookies record that a broker link was followed from this site so the broker can credit the referral.

Strictly necessary cookies cannot be switched off without breaking basic navigation, and they carry no advertising purpose. Preference cookies are optional; if you block them, the site still works but forgets your settings on the next visit. Affiliate attribution cookies are set only when you click through to a broker and are read by the broker's own system, not by us. Each category is separate, and blocking one does not disable the others.

We do not use advertising cookies, cross-site behavioural tracking cookies, or cookies that build a profile of your trading interests for resale. The affiliate cookie exists to attribute a single click, not to follow you around the web. If you clear cookies in your browser settings, all three categories are removed and the site reverts to its default state on your next visit.

You control all of this from your browser. Most browsers let you block third-party cookies while allowing first-party ones, which disables affiliate attribution but leaves the calculators and preferences intact. Kenya's Data Protection Act gives you the right to object to non-essential processing, and blocking these cookies in your browser is the simplest way to exercise it without contacting us.

Affiliate tracking in plain terms: what is recorded when you click a broker link

When you click a broker link on Rift Compare, the broker receives a referral identifier that tells them the visit came from this site. That identifier is attached to the link itself or stored in a cookie set at the moment of the click. It does not contain your name, your email, your M-Pesa number, or anything you typed into a calculator. It is a tag, not a profile.

The purpose is commercial and simple: if you open an account and fund it, the broker may pay Rift Compare a commission. That payment does not change what you pay the broker, and it does not change the numbers we show you. We do not receive your account balance, your trades, or your deposit history from the broker. The referral record tells them a click happened; it does not tell them who you are until you register on their side.

We state this plainly because a comparison site that hides its commercial model is not useful. The affiliate relationship is why the calculators and broker pages exist without a subscription fee. It also means you should assume every broker link on this site is an affiliate link unless it is labelled otherwise. Knowing that, you can weigh our comparison content accordingly and verify costs directly with the broker.

If you prefer not to be tracked, open the broker's site directly in a new tab and search for the account type yourself. You lose nothing on Rift Compare by doing that; the calculators work the same. Blocking third-party cookies also prevents the attribution cookie from being set, though the broker may still see a referrer header from your browser depending on its settings.

The third parties that can see data when you use this site

Four kinds of third party can see data in the course of a normal visit: our web host, our analytics provider, the broker whose link you click, and any payment or identity service the broker uses after you leave us. The host sees standard server logs including IP address and requested page. The analytics provider sees aggregated page views. The broker sees the referral click and, once you register, whatever you give them directly.

The broker is the most significant third party because it becomes the data controller for your account. FxPro is licensed by the FCA (UK), CySEC and FSCA — not by the CMA of Kenya. That matters for privacy as well as for trading: your account data is held under the broker's own policy and the law of its licensing jurisdiction, not under Rift Compare's policy. Read the broker's privacy notice before you register, because that is where your KYC documents and M-Pesa transaction records will live.

We do not sell data to third parties and we do not share contact messages with brokers. Our analytics provider is configured to receive aggregated counts rather than individual profiles, and we do not pass your email address to it. The host processes server logs under a data processing agreement and retains them only for security and uptime purposes.

Beyond those, no other third party receives data from your visit. There are no advertising networks, no data brokers, and no social media pixels on Rift Compare. If that ever changes, this page will say so before the change takes effect, as described in the final section on policy updates.

Your rights over your data and the exact steps to exercise them

You have the right to ask what personal data Rift Compare holds about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, and to object to non-essential processing. In practice, the only personal data we are likely to hold is a contact message you sent us. To exercise any of these rights, email us from the address you used and state what you want; we will confirm what we hold and act on the request.

Kenya's Data Protection Act gives you these rights and also the right to complain to the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner if you are unsatisfied with our response. We will respond to a request within a reasonable period and will not charge a fee for a straightforward access or deletion request. If we cannot verify that the request comes from you, we may ask for clarification before acting.

For data held by a broker after you register, you must contact the broker directly. Rift Compare cannot retrieve, correct, or delete an account record held by FxPro or any other broker, because we never receive it. The broker's privacy notice will explain its own request process and the regulator you can escalate to if needed.

You can also exercise most privacy controls without contacting us at all. Clearing cookies removes preference and affiliate data. Using a browser that blocks third-party cookies prevents affiliate attribution. Browsing in a private window limits local storage for that session. These are the fastest routes for the majority of readers.

How long data is kept, what deletes it, and how policy changes are announced

Contact messages are kept for as long as needed to answer them and for a short period afterwards for reference, after which they are deleted. Server logs are kept for a limited operational window and then rotated out. Calculator inputs and local preferences are kept in your browser until you clear them; we have no copy to delete. Affiliate cookies expire according to the broker's own cookie lifetime, which is set on their side.

The things that delete data are therefore simple: time for server logs, an explicit deletion request for contact messages, and clearing your browser for anything stored locally. There is no archive of calculator sessions to purge because none is created. If you want a contact message removed immediately rather than waiting for the retention window, email us and ask; we will delete it and confirm.

Changes to this privacy policy are announced on this page with a revised effective date at the top, and material changes are flagged in the site notice that appears on your next visit. We do not apply a change retroactively to data already collected under the previous version without telling you. If a change would broaden what we collect, the notice will say so before it takes effect, giving you time to object or clear your data.

The current version of this page is the authoritative statement. If you bookmarked an older copy, check the effective date before relying on it. Questions about retention or about a specific change can be sent to the same contact address used for rights requests, and we will answer them in the same way.

FAQ

Common questions

What does Rift Compare collect when I use the calculators?

The calculators run on the inputs you type, such as lot size and price, to produce the output you asked for. The desk does not need your name, your M-Pesa number or your broker login to do that arithmetic. Treat any request for those details on a calculator page as a red flag.

Do you store the messages I send through the contact form?

Messages are kept so the desk can reply and, where relevant, trace a correction back to its source. The desk does not sell contact details, and it does not add readers to a trading-signal list. If you would rather not share a detail, leave it out and describe the issue instead.

Does the site use cookies or tracking?

The site may use cookies needed for it to work and to measure which pages are read. Where an affiliate link is used, the broker may set its own cookie after you click through, and that is governed by the broker's policy, not ours. Check the broker's privacy page before opening an account.

Will you ever ask for my M-Pesa PIN?

No. Rift Compare never asks for an M-Pesa PIN, an OTP or a broker password, and no legitimate page should. Funding happens inside the broker's own app or site. If a message claiming to be from this desk asks for those details, do not reply and report it through the contact form.

How long is my data kept?

Contact messages are kept only as long as needed to answer the query and to keep a record of any correction. The desk does not publish a fixed retention period because it depends on the type of message, but you can ask for a message to be deleted once the query is closed.
