FAQ

Common questions

Which calculator tells me how big my gold position should be?

The position size calculator answers that. You enter your account balance, the percentage you are willing to risk and your stop distance in pips, and it returns the lot size in gold terms, remembering that 1 standard lot is 100 oz and one pip is 0.01. Start there before touching pip value or margin.

What is the difference between the pip value and profit calculators?

The pip value calculator tells you what one pip of movement is worth at your chosen lot size, while the profit calculator takes your entry, exit and lot size and returns the total result. Pip value is the per-step building block; profit is the whole trade. Use pip value to sanity-check the size before you commit.

How do I work out the margin a gold trade will tie up?

The margin calculator takes your lot size and the leverage cap that applies to your account and returns the funds held against the position. As a reference, at the applicable cap a 0.10-lot gold position needs about $85.50 margin. Margin is a holding requirement, not a measure of risk, so pair it with the position size calculator.

Do I need the pivot points tool to trade XAU/USD?

No, it is optional. The pivot points calculator produces reference levels from the prior session's high, low and close, which some traders use to frame entries and stops. It does not predict anything. If you already trade from your own levels, skip it; if you want a repeatable structure, it saves manual arithmetic.

Can these calculators tell me what my broker will charge?

No. The calculators handle size, pip value, margin and profit, but the cost side depends on your broker's spread, commission and swap terms, which you must read from that broker directly. Rift Compare does not publish or quote those figures, so treat any cost number you see elsewhere as specific to that broker and that account type.
