FAQ

Common questions

What price is used as the reference for XAU/USD on this site?

The reference price used here is approximately 4275.0, quoted in US dollars per ounce. It is a reference point for the examples and calculators, not a live quote and not a level to trade from. Your broker's own bid and ask will differ, and gold moves continuously during the trading week.

Why does gold move so much compared with a currency pair?

Gold reacts to a wide set of drivers at once: US dollar strength, real interest rate expectations, inflation data, central bank buying and safe-haven demand during geopolitical stress. Because it is quoted in dollars and held as a reserve asset, a single US data release can move XAU/USD sharply, which is why position sizing matters more than direction calls.

Is gold trading the same as buying gold coins or bars in Kenya?

No. Trading XAU/USD is a leveraged contract on the gold price, settled in dollars, and you never take delivery of metal. Buying physical gold in Kenya involves a dealer, storage and a different cost structure. Leverage means a small move in price produces a large change in your account, in both directions.

How many ounces am I actually trading in one gold lot?

One standard lot of gold is 100 oz, and one pip is 0.01 in the XAU/USD price. So a 0.10-lot position is 10 oz, and a one-pip move is worth a small, fixed amount that the pip value calculator will show you. Getting this arithmetic right is the first step before any trade.

What should I check on the market page before placing a gold trade?

Check three things: where price sits against your own levels, whether the session is liquid, and what your stop distance means in money at your chosen lot size. The market pages give you price context and hours; the calculators convert that into shillings and dollars of risk. The decision remains yours and the risk is real.
